The Story Behind Kando

The Story Behind Kando

A few years ago I started reading Joyful: The Surprising Power of Ordinary Things to Create Extraordinary Happiness, by Ingrid Fetell Lee. In her view, many of us are not sufficiently aware that colour, texture, form and movement can make a great difference to how we feel. Hence the mundane objects we interact with on a daily basis can have a surprising effect on our emotions.

This book inspired me to create a jewellery collection.

I created the Kando collection because I wanted to make jewellery that makes me happy; happy to create, happy to wear. Each piece is hand pierced and hand formed from recycled silver. Inspired by a mix of ideas that bring me joy: the perfection of the Fibonacci sequence, the playful allure of round shapes; disco balls, balloons, confetti, the repetition that represents abundance, and the way light dances on a polished surface.

Kando is a Japanese word that doesn’t have a neat English equivalent. It’s about that spark - when something stirs your heart, lifts your spirit, and leaves a lasting impression on your soul. It’s the rush of joy when you see something truly beautiful, the deep satisfaction of something crafted with care, the tiny moments that make you stop and feel.

Kando isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about feeling. It’s about jewellery that catches your eye and lifts your mood, that feels good to wear and even better to connect with.

This collection is a celebration of joy, of curiosity, of the little things that make life brighter. I hope you love it as much as I do.
